Notes 3 races were held on Saturday, and 2 on Sunday. On Saturday winds were light but the coven (Dr. Tony Reader of Chichester Yacht Club being an honorary member for the weekend) wanted to get 3 races in to make a series as Sunday's winds were supposed to be lighter. In the event Sunday's winds were fine. Crossing the deep channel between the big yachts and motor vessels in the light winds could be a little heart stopping, but these vessels are used to having dinghies charging out in front of them and they obligingly backed off on the throttle when required. Trying to make the 'Lake' buoy Peter and Anne Cross sailed too close to the shore and got caught up in weed in the second race and had problems raising the daggerboard to clear it. On Sunday John Rogerson and Barnaby sailed too close to the shore and caught the daggerboard on the bottom, but managed to react quickly enough to keep way on and go about. Prior to the fifth race, David Stewart had to rescue a club boat that had shaken its painter from the quay. His dad, Ian, picked up the tow in the rescue boat and returned it to the quay. Immediately prior to the start of the 5th race another club boat decided to leave the quay and this one was rescued by John Rogerson and Barnaby Paul. A CYC club member dived off the key and swam over to retrieve it. John and Val Allen were across the line ahead of the start and were recalled, but to their credit still came 4th. David Stewart was competing for the first time in his Star Traveller that he found in his dad's garage and has been restoring (it's one of the older buff coloured boats, and David has done an excellent job). Roger Davies competed in a Star Traveller he took delivery of this weekend from Barbara and Stewart Warden. All he needs now is a Foldaway RIB and he has the full set of Tinker dinghies! Big thanks go to Roger Parsons, and Ian and Anthony Stewart who manned the safety boat (Ian and Anthony at very short notice). Also, big thanks to Tony Reader from CYC who organised the racing with Sandra Reely and Madeliene Robey. The AGM went well on Sunday, with the Commodore (recovering from a hip op) managing the trip from Margate in order to chair the meeting. Anne Cross stood down as Treasurer and Membership Secretary, and Mac Gasking (brave man that he is) is taking on the role. Thanks for all your hard work over the last 6 years Anne! |
